Description: “Food brings people together on many different levels. It’s the nourishment of the soul and body; It’s truly love.” -Giada DeLaurentiis
It was the moment of joy for the Tarumitra members to taste and present the healthy food made by us through the competition,‘Healthy Bite’. It was heldon 15th of November in Loyola hallof our school. It was guided and conducted under the supervision of Dr.PunamGupta, the animator of Tarumitra club.
The participants were supposed to bring the cooked food items from home and we were to assemble and present it to the judges in a very healthy yet decorative way. We were supposed to observe certain criteria through which the judgement was to be done. The food item one was choosing, taste, natural colours (fruits and vegetables, leaves, herbs), plating (use of naturalthings like banana leaf, coconut shell, plate made of leaves, etc), any complementarydrink which was natural, useof millets, curd etc, showcasing owninnovation, name for the dish,
It took place during the last two periods. Three tables were arranged to serve as counters for the Tarumitra members to serve their food reflecting their own innovations and ideas. We cooked food with the same food items we use in cooking our food every day, but with a twist to make it healthy and tastier, securing all the nutrients. Use of rice, pulses, coconut, jiggery, dates, chickpeas, flattened rice and many more healthy option were used to prepare the food items. Mrs. Harshita and Mrs.Roshni Prakash were the judges of the competition. When the judges entered thevenue, everyone could see the genuine excitement in them. From tasting to judgingthe food was a difficult task for them. It was almost like a roller coaster ride of delicacies assome of the food items were sweet, some were spicyand others were savoury. The judges were marking the participants strictly according to the criteria of judgement. We learnt new things about cooking food by ourselves, helping others, having healthy food which tastes delicious, sharing food with others, innovating new healthy food ideas and most importantly we learnt that healthyfood could taste as delicious as junk food while it will have better nutrition values unlike junk food which students love to have. The food items prepared were sprout salad, ragichocoidli, healthy chaat, coconut laddu, hibiscus tea, chila etc. It was a fun filled event but the prizes could be backed by few.
