Description: Seminar on Upskilling to Scale on 19.06.2024 at St. Xavier Hall. A seminar was held for
all the teachers on 19 June, 2024. The theme of the seminar was “Upskilling to
Scale”.The resource person was Mr.George A.Thomas. The seminar began with a brief
introduction about the New Education Policy 2020 that emphasizes on the learning
outcomes, planning of lessons by the teachers and the right use of technology to be
inculcated among students.
The resource person started the seminar by enlightening us on the different types of
learners – VARK that stands for visual, auditory, reader/writer and kinesthetic. School
should be a happy place where students enjoy and go home happily. The ultimate aim of education is to make students good human beings. Teaching is a vocation rather than aprofession . The New Education Policy emphasizes on Joyful learning.
The resource person focused on four different types of teachers.
1. Authoritarian teacher who has no connection with the students and wants to
ensure the students are disciplined.
2. Authoritative teacher who balances between being a friendly and strict teachers
following the guidelines of teaching.
3. Democratic teacher goes according to the whims and fancies of the students.
4. Detached teacher does not identify the students. The New Education Policy emphasizes upon meeting the needs of every student, creating an urge in students to learn.
A Lesson Plan activity was given to us in which we were divided into groups. We had to
select a topic common for all the subjects and mention the learning outcomes and
pedagogy used. We were enlightened on 10 life skills like thinking, social, emotional,
self-awareness, problem solving, critical thinking, empathy etc. The seminar closed with
a vote of thanks by Mr. Amar Prakash. It was an enriching experience for us. As we are
ready to embrace the New Education Policy in our educational system, it is imperative to upgrade our skills to meet the standards set by the New Education Policy.
