Description: ‘It doesn’t matter how much knowledge one has, what matters is how one expresses
oneself in that particular time interval with presence of mind, logical facts and views.’
A series of literary activities were organised in our school from 30th June to 2nd July and
Extempore competition was held as part of these literary activities on 2nd July under the
leadership and guidance of Ms. Kumud Henry and all the English teachers. There were 20
participants in this competition. The objective of this competition was to make the students
confident and better orators so that they can freely express their views on any topic given.
The topics given varied for each student. All the participants were given one hour to prepare
on the topics given. The competition kicked off at 9 o’ clock with the address by Fr Principal.
He in his address associated the Extempore competition with throwing someone in the
middle of the river and telling him/her to come out of the river. Extempore being an
impromptu speech does not allow students to prepare much as the topic is given on the day
of the competition. The panel of judges comprised Dr. Rekha Singh, Mrs. Moni Singh and
Mrs.Moushumi Roy. The parameters of judgement were – Content, Poise, Diction and
Expression. First came the participants of std 10 A to speak on various topics like Importance
of kindness, winning is everything, Impact of technology on our health etc. They were
followed by the students of ICSE who spoke on various topics like Peer pressure, The women
of today, A good heart is better than a good face, My bravest moment, If I were born again
etc. It was indeed astounding to watch how beautifully the students had penned down their
thoughts and insights on the topics given and delivered their speech of consciousness which
was fluent, erudite and articulate. All the participants displayed their oratory skills with
great zeal and enthusiasm. The competition concluded with vote of thanks by Fr. Vice
Principal who lauded all the teachers and students for the strenuous efforts put in by them
in making the entire event an impeccable one. The Extempore competition not only helped
the students in spontaneous thinking but also assisted their creative ideas and precision.
