Description: “Debate is the art of thinking in front of people." This quote perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the ISC Debate Competition held at our school on 27 September, 2024 for the students of classes XI and XII, showcasing the eloquence and critical thinking of our students. The event took place in the Xavier Hall, which was filled with eager students, English faculty, and esteemed judges.
The competition commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the dispelling of ignorance and the illumination of knowledge. Our principal, Fr. K.P. Dominic delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the importance of debate in developing confidence and articulate communication skills. He encouraged students to express their views respectfully, highlighting that differing opinions enrich discussions.
The competition began with the Class 11 participants. The topic was “ Modern technology has made out lives convenient and easier“. The students passionately presented their arguments, showcasing their research and persuasive skills. Following Class 11 debate, Class 12 students took the stage with the topic “Coaching classes and private tuitions should be banned”. Their insightful speeches were a testament to their maturity and preparation.
The panel of judges, comprising Fr. Mathew Poovakot SJ.,Mrs. Supta Chatterjee and Mrs. FathimaZehra provided thoughtful feedback after each round. Their insights not only praised the students' performances but also offered constructive criticism, encouraging them to refine their skills further.
As the competition concluded, the judges deliberated on the performances. The results were eagerly awaited, and when announced. The audience erupted in applause, celebrating the efforts of all participants.
To close the event, our Vice Principal, Fr. JunasKujur delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, acknowledging the hard work of the organizing committee, the dedication of the judges, and the remarkable performances of all students. The Competition was very well coordinated by our High School Coordinator Ms. Kumud Henry and our senior English teacher Dr. Ms. Punam Gupta.
The Debate Competition not only highlighted the talents of our students but also fostered a spirit of healthy discourse and critical thinking within our school community.
