Description: It is rightly said that 'A healthy mind lives in a healthy body', but we hardly practice to keep ourselves fit and energetic. On the occasion of 3rd International Yoga Day, almost 500 students practiced different asanas under the guidance of Acharya Dr. Sudarshan. It started with the students of class VI from 8 O 'clock to 8:45 am, continued with the students of class VII. The programme ended at 9:30, leaving the students fresh and charged with new energy. The beginning of the warm up session started with some light exercises and then continued with various asanas like Tarasan, Tiryak Tarasan, Katichakrasan, ustrasan, Ardhachakrasana Ustrasan, padhastasana, Hastotanasan, pachimot Pachimotanasan, mandukasan, sasankasan,Pranayam, Narishodhan pranayam, Bharamari pranayam, Sitkari and sitli pranayam. Om chanting shantipath. The children also did Surya Namaskar and practiced different mudra s like gyan mudra, dhyan mudra etc. It may not have been easy and comfortable for them to twist their body at particular angles but their effort was really praiseworthy. They were no more confined to their chairs in an enclosed classroom but enjoyed together with their friends-----sometime correcting and directing their friends and sometime laughing to see their wrong postures. It is serious to note that even at this tender age, school children are suffering with ailments like obesity, diabetes and sluggishness because of wrong food habits and lack of exercise. We need to produce a healthy generation with a proper coordination of head and heart. These asanas will help them build immune system, keep their organs healthy and boost their memory power through concentration. St. Xavier's takes one more step to ensure in producing healthy enlightened citizens to serve God and Country. This day is observed as a reminder of the importance of yoga in our life but we need to imbibe it in our daily life to live a healthy life. This message can well be propagated by our messengers, our students who are ready to practise themselves and even show way to others.
