Description: “It’s not just learning that is important. It’s learning what to do with what you learn that matters.” Education is not mere imparting of knowledge but leading to a new path seeking the release of human potentialities. To discover the hidden talents and improve students’ attitude towards learning, St. Xavier’s High School, Patna, organised a Social Science Exhibition for classes 3 to 10 on August 26,2022. The exhibition showcased various projects, models, charts, working models, etc. prepared by the students as a part of the project-based learning methodology. The Chief Guest, Mr. Amit Kumar ,DEO.,Patna, Father Rector,Fr. Daniel Raj S.J., Father Principal, Fr. A..Christu Savarirajan S.J. and Father Vice Principal Fr. Junas Kujur S.J. graced the occasion. Father Principal addressed the gathering and warmly welcomed the chief guest to this event. The chief guest accompanied by the members of school management committee inaugurated and declared the social science exhibition open. They visited each and every section of the exhibition of the primary and high school wing and appreciated the wonderful creations of the students. The chief guest lauded the school for its efforts for bringing out such inventiveness in students. He focussed on creating more awareness of Social Science not merely as a subject but a pathway to become good citizens of India brimming with the feeling of fraternity and love for diverse culture. Beginning with the little novice creators of class 3 who presented their projects on sources of history, major landforms and pollution. They brought an awareness for safeguarding our environment through their illustrating models. The creative fourth standard children exhibited their art on the topics; our neighbourhood, national symbols and our heritage, thereby enthusing love, care and respect for our nation. A walk through the history section is equivalent to a walk through time. The students of std.5 led us to the stone age through their charts and models that depicted the evolution of human beings and the development of transport and communication. Our school’s creative Sixth Graders presented their projects on the theme Indus Valley Civilization, diversity in India, Panchayati Raj system and agriculture. The Seventh Graders with their theme ‘Global Warming’ brought to the forefront the different aspects of our environment with their splendid working models on its causes, effects and solutions highlighting the different layers of atmosphere and greenhouse effect. The young Eighth Graders introduced us to the impact of 1st lockdown on global temperature and pollution and the different ways of disaster management. The projects of class IX depicted the themes- our Constitution, Elections and the Election Commission. And last, but certainly not the least, the students of Class X presented the topic ‘Popular Struggles and Movements which was quite a struggle for them. Their models on Patna Marine Drive and upcoming Patna metro was fascinating and remarkable. Each project in its own way was notable and unique. The event continued the following day too for the parents and classes to behold. It was indeed a historic and eventful day filled with fun where students learnt a lot thereby developing and enhancing their retention, thinking, problem-solving and collaboration skills. Verily quoted by John F. Kennedy – “Things do not happen. Things are made to happen”.
