Description: Dance is the joy of movement and the heart of life. There is no greater feeling in
the world than moving to a piece of music as it is a powerful medium to express
one’s values, thoughts and aspirations about the lives we live.
To feel the freedom of expression, an Inter – Class Dance Competition was
organized for the students of class III to V at St. Xavier’s High School. The
competition took place on a significant day i.e. 29 th April, 2024 which is celebrated
as the “International Dance Day” with the theme ‘Incredible India’ and ‘Vasudhaiva
Kutumbakam’. The focus was not only to enhance the students’ creativity and
dancing skills but also to expose them to the rich cultural tapestry of India and the
diversity of its folk dances which are an integral part of our heritage. Our
Principal, Fr. K.P. Domichan, S.J., declared the competition open through his
message of inclusivity, integrity and regarding the whole world as one family. He
also impressed upon the participants the importance of dance and physical activity
and encouraged them for their participation.
The little lively dancers of each class set the floor on fire with their choreography,
synchronization and presentation. Dressed in radiant costumes, they twirled,
flipped and moved their bodies on a variety of folk dances of India like Rajasathani,
Bhangra, Dandiya, Giddha, Bihu, Manipuri and Haryanvi. The budding
participants were nicely trained by the music teacher, Mrs. Sunita Sinha and the
dance teacher, Mrs. Sheetal Bharti of our school who meticulously chalked out and
executed the whole event. The judges of the dance competition were Ms. Priyanka
Prisca Toppo, Mrs. Rekha Kumari and Mrs. Soma Mazumdar. They had a tough
time in marking the participants as they found all of them dancing perfectly to the
tune. The judges keenly took a note of their expressions, costume, body movement,
flexibility and applauded the efforts the little dancers put in.
In the end, all the participants presented a grand finale performance highlighting the
theme of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam in a spectacular way. The programme was a
runaway hit and culminated with a vote of thanks by the coordinator of the primary
wing, Mr. Amar Prakash who had been instrumental in making, this event a
remarkable and memorable one.
