Description: “I want to sing like the birds sing, not worrying about who hears or what they think”.
Verily, the little emerging nightingales of primary wing of St. Xavier’s High School, Patna,
proved themselves by singing melodiously in an inter-class singing competition held on 31 st
August, 2022. Altogether, sixty artists from Std. 1 to 5 took part in the competition under the
expert guidance of their music teacher Mrs. Sunita Sinha. The students were given different
themes, viz, title song of any Cartoon show (Std. 1), Appreciation song (Std. 2), Prayer Song
(Std. 3), Folk Song (Std.4) and Patriotic Song (Std. 5).
The programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by our principal, Fr. A. Christu
Savarirajan, S.J. Vice-Principal Fr. Junas Kujur, SJ, co-ordinator of the Primary Section Mr.
Amar Prakash and the honourable judges of the event, Mrs. Apurwa Kumari, Mrs. Suprity
Chauhan and Mr. Vijay Mathias. The School Choir welcomed everyone with their greeting
song. Our principal addressed the gathering and encouraged the young vocalists. He regarded
Music as the food of the soul. It soothes and lightens one’s heart and mind. Music is the best
method of relaxation and an expression of feelings and ideas. He further congratulated and
blessed all the participants.
The competition was held in two shifts. At the outset the students of Std. 3 performed followed
by Std. 2 and Std. 1. In the second shift, the students of classes 4 and 5 gave their performances.
The participants sang the songs with a lot of passion, confidence and feeling. Their melodious
song pulled the heartstrings of the audience. Each child showed mastery over voice modulation,
pitch, rhythm and tone. The judges thoroughly enjoyed the mellifluous songs of the superstars.
They were impressed with the confidence, the tonal quality and the fervour with which they
sang the songs. The competition truly inculcated a sense of pride for one’s country and culture
in the students. It exercised their heart, lungs and released endorphins making them feel good
and rejuvenated.
The musical event finally came to an end with the vote of thanks extended by our co-ordinator,
