Description: We do not need magic to transform the world. We carry all the power we need inside ourselves already. These words of J.K. Rowling were epitomised by the tiny performers on stage during the English Literary Competition held by the English Department, Primary Wing under the stewardship of the Head of Department, Mrs. Olive Ekka.
The competition began with the lighting of the lamp followed by Father Principal's address. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the preparation of the speech is an essential part before presentation. For that, he put across the four Cs every speaker must consider while preparing. They are - The speech must be CONCISE and CLEAR and the speaker must be CONFIDENT and CREATIVE. He also said that the competitions do not actually serve as a platform for winners . Rather they are an exercise meant to help students grow.
First of all, the class 1 participants left the audience spellbound with their confident recitation of poetry. Unaware of complexes of all kinds, these little kids were gloriously spontaneous. The participants of class 2 took great pride in showing off and telling about their favourite object, be it their doll or their favourite cartoon character. Finally, as we drew to the close of the first phase of the competition, class 3 students showed their allegiance to the motherland through poems. "Neither Hindus, nor Muslims - We are Indians first" These lines recited by one of the participants were all the more thrilling for the listeners present there. The winners were felicitated at the end of the first phase.
The second phase began with the delivery of speeches by the students of class 4. They spoke on relevant proverbs such as, Failures are the pillars of success, God helps those who help themselves and the like. Some of them elaborated on the importance of English language. Aadya Singh of class 4 very beautifully portrayed English as a powerful means of communication in the global platform. The students of class 5 recited stories with a moral in the end. These young presenters reminded us of those old days when dadis/ nanis used to be the conscience-keepers of the children and inculcated good values in them through moral stories.
In the end, one of the jury members, Mrs. Sweta Singh reiterated the fact that the speakers must maintain an eye contact with the audience to impress upon them. She also said that they must prepare well and practise enough before the delivery of the speeches. The winners of the second phase of the competition were felicitated thereafter.
Mr. Amar Prakash, the co-ordinator of the Primary Wing, proposed the vote of thanks exclusively mentioning each one responsible for making the whole show a grand success. The hall echoed with the school song and the competition came to its customary conclusion.
