Description: It is the month of August and we all know that the annual festival of Raksha Bandhan is on its way. Raksha Bandhan is a special occasion to celebrate the bond between brothers and sisters symbolized by tying a holy thread, ’Rakhi’ around the wrist of brothers. On Friday, 2nd of August, 2019, the young Xavierians were turned into little artisans. For the auspicious day of Raksha Bandhan, a Rakhi- Making Competition was conducted in our school for all students from Class I to Class X to bring out creativity of the students. The students participated with great zeal and zest in this competition. Besides the competition, a charitable amount of Rs.10 was donated by each student to raise money for the poor children ensuring that they are not deprived of happiness in this festival of love. This colorful and artistic event was efficiently organized and managed by the L.T.S. Club (Leadership Training Services) that is under the charge of the L.T.S. animator Dr. Poonam Gupta, who is one of the most experienced teacher of our school. The students were involved in exhibiting their innovative skills by fabricating exquisite Rakhis by their inventive hands. They were given the last two periods viz. an hour to do so. The Rakhis that were made were an enviable lot and a fusion of modern with traditional styles was seen. There were more than 500 Rakhis which were made using different types of Rakhi- Making kits available in the market, cotton, thermocol, foam, clay, quailing paper, stones, beads, stars, glitters, beautiful twisted threads, small colourful bits of paper, component of the readymade Rakhis, cartoon stickers, cardboard, artificial flowers and many more. The winners of this contest will be announced on the basis of genuineness and authenticity of the imaginative skills of the little craftsmen and the Rakhis will be on display and sale from Monday, August 05, 2019.
